Getting Started

Pyre is a bring-your-own-key, local-first roleplay client. Fresh install to first scene is short: open the app, accept the welcome screen, connect a provider when you are ready, then use a bundled example, import a card, or build one.

  • 1. Install Pyre

Android, desktop, web through your own hub, or self-host.

  • 2. Connect your AI

Native apps use your key directly. Browser clients can chat through a paired hub without storing a key.

First launch

The welcome screen is intentionally short. Accepting it covers the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, then you land in the app. Pyre seeds starter content so you can inspect a character, scenario, lorebook, and persona before building your own.

What you need

  • A supported surface: Android, Windows, Linux desktop, or web/PWA served by your hub.
  • A provider if you want to generate replies. This can be a hosted API, an Anthropic-native connection, an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or a local server.

The browser/PWA path is the exception: if it is paired to a hub, chat can use the hub's provider without putting a key in the browser.
